Lake fun...and some not so fun!
We actually had to stop at a Minute Clinic at CVS pharmacy on Saturday morning to get him some antibiotics for the trip. Thank goodness for that Nurse Practitioner! Saved our week! He was grumpy and whiney, with good reason, for the first few days but it didn't keep him from having fun in between the meds! :-) We swam at least once a day EVERY day we were down there, sometimes 2 and 3 times! We went out on the boat several times and jet ski too! It was so fun and I'm glad we got to go this year! Bob's little sister, Elizabeth and her fiance came to visit us the last weekend we were there too...the boys REALLY LOVED that! :-)
So we all worked on our tan and none of us got sunburnt except for Bob on the VERY LAST day! His fault of course. :-) The boys got so used to the lake water that they would climb/jump into the water all by themselves (with life jackets of course) and swim around all by themselves! Camden kept saying: "Look mommy, I swim all by myseff" :-) It was real cute.
We arrived back home later than we wanted to on Sunday night as the Jet Ski decided it didn't want to start and we had to tow it to the ramp to get it home. So that was a wasted 2+ hours! Ugh...then Decovin had us stop 3 times so he could go to the restroom and then we had to stop for dinner...so that was a little bit dramatic but we made it home and we are all now rested and pretty much back to normal...well ALMOST normal...
The boys are currently living the basement with all of their possessions!! ALL OF THEM! We are currently in the middle of a makeover project on their rooms and we thought we could get it done over a 2 day period...boy were we wrong...so they have been residing down here until this weekend. They will be going to my mom and dads (bless them) for the weekend so we can finish up the project and get them back into a room. With doors. Ugh! I'm already tired of the makeover and we still have the rest of the house to go since we decided to paint all the trim throughout the house white!!! GAH! I just keep saying, it will all be worth it in the end! Let's hope!

BUSY BUSY BUSY!
3rd of July. I participated in a 5K in Lebo, KS where I beat my last time! I ran it in 31.09 seconds. My first race was 31.54.
4th of July. Had a blast! Aunt Ruthie & Uncle Bob threw an awesome shindig! My kids LOVED the lake fun! They were in and out of the water ALL day!!! Food was awesome, company was awesome, the games were awesome, and so were the fireworks!!! Camden LOVED THEM! He kept saying: "Popcorn! Popcorn!"...hahaha!
July 10. Participated in "Midnight Bomber" 5K Run in Iola, KS. History behind the event: In July 1905 Charley Melvin, an avid prohibitionist recently released from a mental asylum, stole 1,500 sticks of dynamite and blew up 3 saloons in downtown Iola, Kansas. The 12:26AM blast was felt 12 miles away and sent political shockwaves through the state and nation. Iola annually commemorates this historic event with the Mad Bomber Run, a 5K run/3K walk that begins at the site of the dynamited saloons. It was REAL fun! There were 9 of us girls that teamed up to run together! It was super fun. The only bummer was I had just started the beginning stages of a summer cold and was not 100% up to snuff but I ran the whole thing and still managed to beat my first 5K running it in 31.42!
Christy came to visit for 4 days and helped me out tremendously by watching the boys for me here and there while I ran errands and/or went to my Turbo exercise class! She also helped me by using her voice...since mine was lacking due to my summer cold, she was able to get onto the boys for me and read them their bedtimes stories!(Thanks Christy so much for all your help!)
Amanda came for a couple nights also and we had a great time!
Ok. Neurology update...had an EMG on Tuesday, everything is good...normal. So now I am scheduled to see a pain doctor in early August for a steroid shot in my back! OUCH! But I'm looking forward to having some relief!
Took Camden to the dentist today and Bob went to Home Depot...where he is gathering items to "renovate" our home...EEEK! I'm nervous/excited about this adventure! Will keep you all posted as best as I can!
Hope everyone is doing well and staying cool in this BRUTAL heat!
Oh P.S. Biggest news, I am currently training for a half marathon (13.1 miles) in October in Kansas City! I am SUPER NERVOUS! But I will try my hardest!!! The craziest thing I think I will do in my lifetime! LOL!

Experimental Phase Complete
The end result is, I'm not sure it was THE culprit of my numbing BUT it helped SOME. I still got numbing on day 7 of all days but I was sitting in the doctors office talking with the doctor when it started up. So his thought is it could be stress/anxiety induced. Lovely! So there is no medicine for numbing...just tingling and for pain. Since I have neither of those, he is going to do an EMG on my nerves to make sure I don't have a pinched one since I have chronic low back pain. They may even give me a steroid shot in my back to help alleviate said pain. Which would be SO nice seeing as how I haven't had a solid all night sleep in years. I toss and turn ALL night b/c of the pain. I've just learned to "deal with it" I suppose. So there may be light at the end of the tunnel for me afterall. I will keep you all posted.
P.S. I drank a cup of coffee this morning and seem fine. I am going to finish off my stash of coffee grounds at home and only have one cup a day. Once it is gone I will probably switch to decaf. Afterall, it's the flavor I love so much! I didn't realize how much of a caffeine addict I was until I stopped drinking it. Oh well. Such is life.
I am going to be running in another 5K this Saturday then it is off to Aunt Ruthie's for the 4th of July festivities! :-) Looking forward to some fireworks with the kiddos! :-)
Hope everyone is having a great week!

Experiment
I decided that for one week (starting this past Monday), I would give up caffeine. I decided to do this after one afternoon of drinking 3 cups of coffee after 2pm. I noticed I was real jittery, anxious, and my numbing was hightened. Not sure if the numbing was coincidence or not, I thought I would give a wurl anyway.
So I am on day 4 of no caffeine at all. After the first 3 days of mind blowing headaches on top of T.O.M. (grrrrr), I am starting to notice I haven't had any numbing for a couple of days. I still had numbing on day one and day two but not day three and so far not today. So we'll see. I do still have an appointment with a neurologist on Monday...so it will be a full 7 days of no caffeine to see if my theory is true.
Anyway, I miss coffee SOOOOO much. I truly just LOVE the taste! But I want to feel better too, so if it means giving up the good stuff, so be it!
Oh, on a fun note...I'm planning on doing another 5K next Saturday on the 3rd of July. Wish me luck...I haven't been "training" as much as I should be.

Slacker, party of one!

The biggest "bummer" news is I have been having random unexplained numbness throughout my body. So I went to the doctor and he ordered and MRI of my brain and neck area. They both came back "normal"...thank goodness! Now I am just waiting on the next step which is likely a visit to a neurologist. Hopefully I can get some answers soon. Luckily I am experiencing no pain and no muscle weakness...just the numbing. I'll keep you all posted as to what I find out.
Other than that, not much else exciting has been going on. Trying to stay dry in all this rain which has put a damper on our summer fun! Limiting our pool visits to only twice so far this season! We have been in our little pool in our backyard more but haven't lately as it is a swamp in our back yard! *sigh* Hopefully it will dry out soon!
Anyway, that's all for now! I'll try to post more regularly! :-)

Hosptials are no bueno!
Next morning he woke up with a fever still and then started throwing up AGAIN! Ok, ok...I'll just ride this day out, he probably has a 24 hour flu bug that just needs to run its course. He's still drinking lots of water and was peeing...he stopped eating, but understandably. I wasn't worried. He threw up about 5 more times throughout the day and I told Bob if he throws up even once tomorrow I'm taking him in to the doctor. Well, he threw up at midnight and again at 6am that following morning...so I called the doctor's office when they opened and they had an appt at 1:15...so we made it through the morning without throwing up but he did a lot of "hovering" over the trash can.
The doctor checked him over and decided to get blood drawn since he was sooooo lethargic, etc. Well, his white blood count was up to 56,000. Apparently, a normal count for a kiddo his age is usually between 10,000 and 13,000ish...so his was through the roof!! It basically told them he had a super bad infection somewhere in his body. The doctor said he had dual ear infection and a sinus infection also...so that could have been it soley??? We had no idea. He decided to admit him to the hospital to get him much needed fluids as he was dehydrated and super lethargic and not to mention that crazy white blood cell count!!!
Ok, they send us to the E.R. to get an IV started...I hate getting an IV b/c they can NEVER get it in in one shot b/c my veins "hide"! Bleh! Turns out, Decovin inherited my veins. Poor lil' dude. Also, as a side note, 3 EMT's showed up to help "hold him down", etc if need be...so here poor puny lethargic little Decovin is surrounded by 3 pretty burly dudes and a nurse!! He was terrified...he started screaming and crying and the nurse had stuck him and then tried to "fish" for the vein for a good 3 minutes or more...long enough that his arm was turning purple from the rubber band thing they use! Well, this was making me sad for him already, then Camden started crying b/c brother was crying which in turn made me cry...Ugh! It stinks trying to be the one to "hold it together"...so the nurse gave up on that arm and then the EMT had to try the other arm...well imagine Decovin's "excitement" about this news...More crying all around for us and we finally had the IV in!
I had to call Bob at work to come get Camden, so he booked it over as fast as he could and was there for about 15 minutesish before he took Camden home. No sooner than Bob left then the lab people came by to draw more blood for a culture test!!! Oh poor Decovin...SERIOUSLY! He was poked 4 times w/in an hour! He was real jumpy anytime anyone got near his arms!
He pretty much slept off and on that first night, then by morning he seemed to be a bit more perky but he still wasn't eating and he kept having stomach cramps and thinking he was going to throw up again...bleh...so they came in and had to draw MORE blood only to find out his white count had only gone down to 41,000...which was good it was going down but not good enough to get sent home. So he watched cartoons all day just hung out. Bob came in around 9:30am to relieve me so I could go home and shower, etc...I took Camden with me so he could eat lunch at home and take a nap. I came back around 4pm to swap out with Bob again.
He had the ebb and flow of stomach cramps the remainder of the night until he finally went to bed around 9:45. He slept all night and woke up a little after 7. He said he was hungry and when breakfast came around he actually ate some eggs and a bite of banana...they had to come in again and draw blood yet again...he screams now. :-(
Good news, Doc came in about an hour later and said his count is down to 14,000...not completely normal yet but low enough we can be sent home! YAY! They also did look at his chest xray and found he had a touch of pneumonia in his upper left lung quadrant. So that was all aiding in his ickyness. :( Poor lil' dude was just real sick.
So now we are waiting to be released and in the meantime, Decovin asked to take a nap! And he is actually sleeping...I think the blood draw was too much for him this morning and wore him out. Thank you to everyone who was thinking and praying about us! We really appreciated it!

Aloha!
We took over 800 pictures and haven't uploaded them all but we will someday. Just haven't decided which program to do it under. Kodak really sucks these days and I'm non-committal with any other place...any suggestions?
So we had 8 nights on the big island of Hawaii. We arrived late morning on the 30th of April and got our rental and headed into Kailua-Kona for some lunch and shopping...then we headed to our Luau that evening...it was really neat and the hula dancing was insane...how they get their bodies to move like that is beyond me! Wow!
Then we headed up to our rental property in the dark. That was interesting. It was REALLY dark (Hawaii doesn't have a lot of street lights, etc) and really curvy roads...and every road the houses were located on looked like you were heading down an alley that was on private property! So we were leery driving up to our place. We finally found it and settled in for the night.
We woke up the next morning to head out for our Zip Line tour! It was AWESOME! There were 8 different zip lines and since we were such a small group they let us go on 4 of them twice so we actually got 12 zip lines! :-) It was truly an awesome experience and I would highly recommend it to anyone who asked!
After that was over we headed out to the beach for some boogie boarding and sun ray catching! ;-) It was a fun day!
Next day we hiked down into Pololu Valley where it had black sand...it was so cool! The only thing that was not cool was the dead beached whale on the shore. It was stinky and not attractive at all...bleh
That night we headed to our guided tour up to the top of Mauna Kea! It was SO cool to be above the clouds to watch the sun set! It was really cold up there, but the company provided us with parka's and gloves...thank goodness! The wind made it worse too! We also go to see the observatories up there (couldn't go in, but got really close) and then we did some star gazing with some high powered telescopes...we got to see Mars and Saturn...the rings were really neat! Then "Father Sky" (as they referred to it) kept covering up the stars with clouds so we had to head out a bit early. Overall, it was a really awesome experience!
Next day we went on a coffee farm tour and shopped some more before we headed to a resort for our couple's massage. It was very nice and relaxing. Off to dinner after that along the shore and then headed home for some much needed rest!
Next morning we packed everything up and headed south around the bottom of the island to go to other side of the island for our last 4 nights...we stopped at several beaches and outlooks on the way to our main destination, Green Sands Beach. When we got there it looked like it wasn't going to be very far away so we decided our flip flops would be fine. After walking for more than hour later we wished we would have put our tennis shoes on. We finally made it only to realize it was a Steep hike down to the actual beach. Bob went ahead and hoofed it down to take pictures but I waited for him up top. There were 4 nudists on the beach down there which made it almost impossible to get a good picture...grrrrr! Oh well. Fun for stories I guess.
When we finally made it back to our car, we then headed to South Point, which is the southern most point in the United States. Nothing spectacular, but it was fun to say we were the furthest south you could go in the U.S.! :-)
We finally made it to our second rental, in the dark yet again...but the directions were good so we had minimal problems. :-) When we woke up the next day, I stepped out on the lanai and was AMAZED at our view! The ocean was the backdrop along with the tropical rain forest all around! It was truly incredible!
That morning we headed to the Farmer's market to do some more shopping and then we made our way around the town to a lava tube, some waterfalls, and some scenic outlooks!! It was a fun day indeed!
Next day was a "beach bum day"...so we headed to a beach so I could lay out and read and Bob got to explore some tide pools and climb around on the lava rocks, etc. It was a win-win. The Hilo side of the island rains ALOT (like 250 inches+ a year or something crazy like that) so it rained everyday we were there for a little bit and would stop then rain again then stop, etc...it was interesting...
Next day we headed to Volcano National Park where we hiked over 7 miles of trails and saw lots of really cool things...steam vents from the active volcano, sulfur vents, Kilueau caldera (we hiked across the base of it), the active lava pot (it glows at night), and another lava tube you could walk through. We headed out to go see the actual flowing lava that can only be accessed from a county road (not in the park) but got there 23 minutes late...so we weren't allowed in! I was a bit bummed as I had been really looking forward to it...unfortunately we saved it til our very last full day in Hawaii so we didn't have another chance to see it. *sigh* Only thing that didn't go as planned on our trip.
Next morning we woke up early to pack up and head to the airport. We stopped at Waipeo Valley to take some quick pics and then headed on our way. We got there SUPER early and then once it was time for our flight to start boarding they announced there was mechanical problems and they were working to get it fixed. Turns out it was a cracked windshield and they had to get a new one...the part was in Honolulu and being flown in...they kept pushing our flight back further and further...so we were worried we were going to miss our connecting flights...so we talked to one of the agents and they agreed and got us on a different flight...unfortunately it wasn't leaving until 4:52pm...we had been at the airport since 9:30am!!! Up side was we had a direct flight from Kona to Chicago then a quick flight from Chicago to KC and made it home 2 hours earlier than we would have the other way! :-)
We got to Bob's parents house around 10:30 and gave our boys big squishes! It was wonderful to see them! We hung out and showed them our pictures, etc...then as we were getting ready to leave we noticed Decovin had a fever. Wonderful.
Got home and he went to bed without complaints. Woke up the next morning with continued fever and then by noon he was throwing up...he threw up 2 more times throughout the day...he was feeling much better by dinner time and ate mac-n-cheese and kept asking for more food...he was playing and active before bedtime. Then he woke up this morning with a fever again and not feeling well...he threw up again around 11am and he says he feels much better now. We'll see. *sigh*
They both have a cough and runny nose but Camden is acting "normal" other than that...I'm crossing my fingers that Decovin keeps this bug to himself. Bleh!
Anyway...sorry for the long post. Hope you are all having a great week!

Well, last post for about a week or so...
Camden is doing great in the speaking department...he really has taken off! He still gets really frustrated when he doesn't have the words though and can get into quite a long crying streak if we let him. :-( We're working on it.
Decovin's last day of school is the 20th of May! His first year of preschool is almost done! Eek! Where did the time go?! My big guy!
I've been running/training for a 5K that is happening next month in my town. I'm excited about it and hope I can keep the momentum up since I will be on vacay for a week...
Well my fellow bloggers, I look forward to reading all the blogs upon my return. Pictures will be posted so have no fear! Love you all!

Hawaii here we come!!!!
Silly little questions that go through my head randomly! I stress over the silliest things. I should just be excited with zero stress of the fact that I'm going to HAWAII!!! But then I start thinking about how the boys will do without us for 9 days...they've only been away from us for 2 nights max!! And they of course cried for us at some point! Eeeek! My stomach churns about it...
I feel like I go into a "shut down" mode before a big function/event/travel, etc...It's weird. I have been lacking on my exercising (I still go but not 5-6 times a week, more like 4)...I haven't gotten on the computer a TON (which is probably a good thing)...the house needs cleaned...I just get flustered real easy...
On a positive note I FINALLY have BOTH Decovin and Camden's 1st year scrapbooks DONE...FINISHED! BIG RELIEF! I love them...they are fun to flip through and see my little guys when they were so small! I'm just glad I'm finished!! Yay!!!
Well, off to make more lists...sigh.

What a weekend!

Happy Monday!
Christy and I traveled to St. Louis to visit our cousin, Michelle! It was fun...we did a lot of cooking, chatting, and hanging out! It was fun! The boys stayed with my parents and when Bob was off of work he came and got them. They missed their mama as I missed them but it was nice to have a mini-break!
When I got home Bob still had the rest of the week off and we did a lot of veggin out. It was good quality family time. The boys played outside on Thursday and Friday and then it snowed like CRAZY on Saturday??? Random! So we have been stuck inside and the boys are already getting stir crazy after getting the taste of fresh air just for a bit! But it is melting really fast so hopefully it will be ALL gone by end of week and back to the 60's!! I bought steaks to grill and I can't grill til the snow is GONE! Come on warmer spring weather! I miss my grill!
Onto official business, we have completed our living wills and all is prepped and legal. The papers were all signed on Friday. It seems weird to have to do that but I guess that is what you do when you grow up and are forced to become responsible. *sigh* Depressing but necessary and I am really glad we did it...for the boys and for each other.
The boys are still fighting a cold! It seems to linger! Decovin started in with a fever and cough and runny nose and all the drainage caused some throwing up of phlegm, etc...he is still coughing somewhat and this has been lasting for over a week now, I think. Camden started in 4 or 5 days ago with same symptoms...poor lil' guys...but they are both on the mend and acting mostly "normal" aside from cough that won't go away and the runny nose that never stops! Camden's little nose is so raw! *ouch*
Bob and I are steering clear so far! I really do believe that exercising regularly has kept me "healthy" and free from most of the boys' illnesses...*knocking on wood*
Anyway...not much else is happening...we are on the countdown for Hawaii...1 month and 1 week away from take off! I'm getting really excited and can't wait! :-)
Look forward to all your new blogs! Keep 'em coming!! :-)

GratiTuesday!
1. My garage. When it rains or snows it is SOOOO nice to have my garage to protect me and my kiddos while I get them in and out of the car! :-)
2. Local grocery store...they are old school and bring your groceries out to your car EVERYTIME! So when it is raining like today, I don't have to stand out in the rain any longer than it takes me to buckle in the kids! Thank you Hoover's employee's!! *love it*
3. My mama...she always watches the boys for me at the drop of a hat! I really appreciate it and I do know how much work they are and I am so very greatful for this!
4. My dads health...he is doing better and better as time goes on!! To the point where he is having more good days and less bad! :-)
5. Super glue...my new "bandaid"...

What a great day!
Seriously! I woke up, exercised, showered, dressed, hair and makeup done...boys both up by 7am...laundry started, dishes done and a yummy breakfast in my tummy and coffee before 7:30!!
The boys were awesome today...took them to the Rec Center for a playdate with some kiddos and were were there from 9:30 til about 11...then came home and had lunch and Camden nearly fell asleep on the floor afterwards...he was out by 11:45 and up at 2:35!! Because it was SOOOOOO nice outside...i bundled the boys up and we headed outside for some much needed fresh air! They rode their bikes, played with sidewalk chalk, rode on the power wheels, shoveled some gravel, played with dump trucks and kicked around a ball! We were outside for an hour and a half! It was FANTASTIC!! And when we had to come in, Decovin helped pick up and didn't give me any lip! WHOO HOO!
Decovin no sooner than sat on the couch and he was out like a light! It was really sweet. Then I made the boys and I breakfast for dinner! We had sausage links, fresh hash browns, french toast (made with cinnamon raisin bread), eggs, and cinnamon rolls for dessert! YUM! They both ate REALLY REALLY well and now they are watching The Incredibles and playing nicely with each other and BEST YET...Bob should be home any minute! What an AWESOME day! I just love days like this!!!
